Is Steep Cross-Platform?
Steep was released on the 2nd of December 2016 for the PS4, Xbox One, and Windows. Since the advent of the next-gen consoles the game has been released on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles as well.
Thus, keeping all this information in mind, let’s now get straight to how Steep actually works across all these different platforms.
Is Steep Cross-Platform PC and Xbox
When it comes to cross-play between platforms a Windows PC and Xbox, have always had a solid relationship as both have a Microsoft OS installed in them.
Thus, in most of the games, the crossplay features are available between these two platforms (PC and Xbox)
However, that isn’t the case with Steep as it has absolutely no cross-platform gaming capabilities even between the PC and Xbox.
Some games have special conditions for cross-platform play, for example, PC players can play Ark Survival Evolved with Xbox players online if both versions of the game have been bought from the Microsoft store. However, with Steep, even that isn’t possible.
Is Steep Crossplay PC and PS4/PS5
The PC and PS4/PS5 have not had the best relationship when it came to cross-playing games but still, some of the more high profile games released in recent years have found a way to implement crossplay, even between PS4/PS5 and PC players.
But once again, the creators of Steep haven’t found a way to do that yet and the game remains with no cross-platform functionality across the PC and PS4/PS5.
Which has put quite a dent in the actual sales of the game in recent years as more and more players have started switching to cross-platform games so that they can play with their friends online.
Is Steep Cross-Platform PS4/PS5 and Xbox
Steep is not cross-platform even between the PS4/PS4 and Xbox consoles. This might become a huge problem for the game in the future when more of the same type of games start released with cross-platform functionality.
Even now the interest of gamers in this particular game is starting to wane as there’s not much to do if you can’t play with your friends across platforms. So, Ubisoft is going to have to come up with a solution quickly.
Is Steep Cross Gen?
The introduction of the next-gen consoles has been absolutely amazing for gamers who were looking to update their consoles for a while now.
But it hasn’t been super good for the developers of games as gamers have now been clamoring for more online cross-gen games as well.
Many game creators have obliged and made their games cross-gen. However, Steep isn’t one of them as the game still remains with no cross-gen gaming functionality.
In fact, the introduction of the next-gen consoles may have taken the creators of Steep by surprise as Ubisoft themselves has stated that the game may not remain as popular as it once was.
Thus, to sum up, if you want to play Steep online with your friends make sure they’re on the same gen console as you otherwise you just won’t be able to play together.
Imagine the rapid gameplay of any of the Tony Hawk games and now change the setting from innovative and gorgeous looking skate parks to tall and huge snow-capped mountains.
Congratulations, you now have some semblance of the gameplay of Steep. It’s clear when you play the game for the first time that it’s taken inspiration from the super popular Tony Hawk Pro Skater games and that’s not a bad thing per se as those games had technically sound mechanics just like Steep.
The graphics as well are a huge step from the graphics expected from games released in 2016.
The gameplay itself though is a little too simple and traditional as the player is plopped down onto the peak of a snowy mountain and told to skate down the mountain and the one who does in the least amount of time wins.
Getting an extra score during your journey is a chore as well as performing a specific stunt is incredibly difficult to do at command.
Thus, if we were to rate the game it would probably be a 6 out of 10. But we still have to admit there’s something about the game that keeps bringing us back to it, so maybe that’s worth something.

Actually, we’ve always believed in the notion that actions speak louder than words and if you apply it in this case then it basically means that we can explain the gameplay all we want but you won’t truly understand it unless you see the gameplay for yourself.
Thus, we’ve listed down two of the most influential Steep Twitch streamers to allow you to see the gameplay for yourself.
Does Steep have Free Dual Entitlement?
As you’d expect from a game that doesn’t provide cross-platform play or cross-gen play, Steep does not provide free dual entitlement either.
Thus, not only can you not play with your friends on next-gen consoles but if you switch to a next-gen console you have to buy another next-gen copy of the game.
Steep is available in three different editions, the Standard Edition, the Ubisoft+ Edition, and the X Games-Gold Edition.
However, none of these come with a free dual entitlement feature instead the only advantages you get for buying either the Ubisoft+ or X Games-Gold editions are some extra passes for the game.
Is Steep Cross-Progression?
This question is often a no-brainer to answer depending on whether or not the game in question is cross-platform but because we look out for our readers, let us fill you in on the answer.
Unfortunately, because the game is not cross-platform it doesn’t possess any cross-progression functionality either.
This essentially means that if you switch platforms and try to play on a platform that doesn’t already have an existing save file of the game you will have to start the game from scratch.
This isn’t ideal we know, but at least on the bright side, it allows you to discard your previous bad performances and start fresh.
Can Steep be Played Offline?
Every gamer thinking of picking up Steep often asks if the game can be played offline as well as online. So, we thought why don’t we answer that question once and for all, for all our readers.
Until now, the creators of Steep, Ubisoft, have introduced no way to play the game offline but they have expressed interest in the past in including offline play in the game.
However, for now, if anyone wants to play the game they need to have a stable connection to the internet as the game uses online trackers to save your stats and scores.
Does Steep work with VR?
The answer to this question is yes, Steep does work with VR. Although, after hearing from a few of the gamers, we have reached the conclusion that it is not the best choice to play Steep on VR because the movement is not the best.
If you play it in a first-person POV, you cannot change the view by moving your head. So, it becomes kinda annoying and all the fun goes away since you can’t enjoy the 360 views.
You still get the option to switch to a third person’s point of view, but that really destroys the purpose of virtual reality gaming as it is meant to experience the first-person point of view manly.
Frankly speaking, if you want to play it from a third-person point of view then better get a big-sized monitor and play on that. We guarantee you a great time.
Is Steep Cross-Platform Conclusion
Steep as a game is a wonderful dive into the world of snowboarding and its breathtaking graphics are enough to immerse you into the gameplay.
But after playing the game for a couple the hype for the game has died down somewhat and fans reckon it’s because of the lack of updates to the game by the creators.
One specific update that Steep players have been clamoring for is the introduction of cross-platform play but sadly, the creators at Ubisoft haven’t obliged this request as of yet and according to their more recent interviews they’re likely not going to for some time.
Till then, fans will have to sit tight and just play the game online with players on the same platform as them and hope that Ubisoft has a change of heart in the future.
